1/23/2012 - VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.  -- Col. Nina M. Armagno assumed command of the 30th Space Wing in a change of command ceremony at the base theater Jan. 23.

Armagno assumed command from Col. Richard Boltz upon his selection for reassignment to U.S. Strategic Command where he will serve as the battle watch commander in the Global Operations Center at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.

"I pledge that I will serve the men and women of this amazing installation and that we will continue to provide a safe, secure and reliable environment in which to work, live, play, train, test and give vital national security assets a ride to space," said Armagno. "We in this business love what we do and we never get tired of watching rockets fly. So, Hawks of the 30th Space Wing - let's get to it!"

Armagno's past assignments include installation commander of the 6th Space Warning Squadron at Cape Cod Air Force Station, Mass., and commander and deputy commander of the 21st Operations Group at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. She has held staff assignments at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Headquarters 14th Air Force and the 381st Training Group and served as an Air Force Legislative Fellow in the office of Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher. Most recently, Armagno was the director of staff for Headquarters Air Force Space Command at Peterson AFB.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in biology at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., Armagno earned a Master of Arts degree in education administration and management from Chapman University and a Master of Science degree in national security studies from the National War College in Washington, D.C.

Her awards include the Defense Superior Service, Legion of Merit, Air Force Meritorious Service, Air Force Commendation, Army Commendation, Air Force Achievement, National Defense Service and Global War on Terrorism Service medals.
