  • Space and Missile Systems Center

    The Space and Missile Systems Center, a subordinate unit of Air Force Space Command, is the center of technical excellence for developing, acquiring, fielding and sustaining military space systems. SMC's mission is to deliver resilient and affordable space capabilities. The center is responsible for on-orbit check-out, testing, sustainment and maintenance of military satellite constellations and other Department of Defense space systems.
  • Space Based Infrared System

    The SBIRS program is the follow-on capability to the highly successful Defense Support Program (DSP).  The SBIRS program was designed to provide a seamless operational transition from DSP to SBIRS and meet jointly defined requirements of the defense and intelligence communities in support of the missile early warning, missile defense, battlespace awareness, and technical intelligence mission areas.
  • Space Based Space Surveillance

    The Space Based Space Surveillance Block 10 satellite operates 24-hours a day, 7-days a week collecting metric and Space Object Identification data for man-made orbiting objects without the disruption of weather, time of day and atmosphere that can limit ground-based systems. SBSS has a clear and unobstructed view of resident space objects orbiting earth from its 390-mile altitude orbit.
  • Space Situational Awareness Integration Office

    The SSAIO establishes and recommends the overall direction for the nation's SSA capabilities to meet the commander, Air Force Space Command Lead Service System Integrator responsibilities. The SSAIO captures national requirements, builds national architectures, assesses capabilities to satisfy requirements, develops integrated modernization plans and investment strategies, and supports community budget builds.
